The purpose of the State Cost-Share Program is to provide landowners or land occupiers financial assistance to offset the cost of installing conservation practices that protect and improve water quality by controlling soil erosion and reducing sedimentation.

The SWCD provides up to 75% cost-share on conservation practices.  Some of the eligible practices include:

  • Terraces
  • Water and Sediment Control Basins
  • Critical Area Stabilization
  • Farmstead Shelterbelts
  • Field Windbreaks
  • Diversions
  • Grassed Waterways
  • Wastewater and Feedlot Runoff Control

The SWCD provides technical assistance to the agricultural landowners by:

  • Conducting a site investigation with the landowner
  • Working with the landowner to determine the best management practice (BMP) for the given situation
  • Surveying and designing the project
  • Producing a rough cost-estimate
  • Providing the landowner with a designed plan for submission of bids
  • Performing a pre-construction conference with the contractor and landowner
  • Supervising construction
  • Certifying completion of the project

All practices must be approved for cost-share prior to construction.  Landowners are reimbursed upon completion of the project.
